Country Music Great Haggard Hospitalized With Pneumonia
Merle Haggard has canceled the rest of his January tour based on an onset of pneumonia. The word is, the 74-year-old country legend has been getting progressively worse since being admitted in a Georgia hospital. This was on Wednesday the 18th, where he canceled a show set for Columbus just a few minutes before taking the stage. The singer’s tour manager, Frank Mull, put it out there that Haggard had been feeling unwell since leaving his home in Northern California, and had been hoping it was just the flu. Merle Haggard himself had hoped he would be well enough to play. He had actually worked for three days with no real strain, and it looked as though he’d work it out. Unfortunately, things did not turn out that way. According to his publicist, the country legend is still a bit out of it. We are all hoping he has his fighting gloves on. Merle Haggard is Country music- a paraphrased version of what Keen said about Merle in 2009. The guy is a living legend, no doubt. You rarely ever talk about country music, in any significant proportion, and not talk about Merle Haggard. The guy has clearly made his mark. At 74, he is still not lacking in enthusiasm. Still going on road shows, and tours, instead of retiring, like the rest of, well, the world! We all hope he gets better, as soon as possible, although I’m sure the doctor will advice him to slow down. His marijuana and tobacco habits aren’t particularly helpful, I hope he’s kicked the nasty habits by now. He was trying to quit, quite the pathological smoker he was, and has gone through his fair share of health problems because of it. However, I say, if he beat cancer-he can beat anything. God speed Merle.
